The goal of this program is to help you build a more intentional life.
For many of us life just happens. For a long time we’re given a set of milestones that are supposed to add up to a good life.
Go to school. Get good grades. Get a good job. Maybe start a business. Find a loving partner. Have a family. Get a house with a dog and a picket fence.
But many of us discover that these milestones don’t feel the way we thought they’d feel. Others of us realize we don’t want some of those things, but aren’t sure what to replace them with. And others eventually get to the end of the milestones that are handed to us, and realize we’re only 30 or 40. What now?
Our goal is to figure that out together.
The course is broken into 6 modules:
Each module has some readings. Some are required (marked by a 🟢) and others are optional (marked by a 🟡). I think all of them are useful - that’s why they’re there. But you’re busy, and I want to respect your time. So I’ve tried to highlight the ones that are absolutely necessary and which ones are merely helpful. I’ve tried to make the readings as short as possible and get right to the point.
I’ve also recorded one or more videos for each module. Sometimes they just summarize the content, for folks who prefer to learn that way. Others are more hands-on, showing you how I use certain tools.
Lastly I’ve created exercises (marked by a 🏋️) to use to help apply the lessons. Again, I’ve included more than you actually need to do. In some cases I highlight multiple approaches for doing the same thing. That’s on purpose. Choose the ones that resonate.
I’m not dogmatic about any of this - I want you to adapt the tools and ideas to your situation or your way of working. The tools don’t matter as much as creating an operating system that works for your life.
Last note - GO AT YOUR OWN PACE. If there was any piece of feedback from the cohorts I ran, it was that 6 weeks was fast to really understand and integrate all of this. It might take you several weeks to really think through values and vision. And it likely will take months to adopt the elements of the Personal Operating System fully into your life. That's okay. It's to be expected. Be patient, be kind with yourself, but be persistent.
The Slack group is the place to share works in progress, ask questions about the material, and share ideas and get feedback. Feel free to share either in the larger group, or if it’s something more personal/relevant to your private cohorts, share directly with me. I’ll be on Slack most of the time during business hours (I live in CST) and will do my best to answer questions for me in a timely manner.
You won’t find me defending my approach - I know it works because I’ve done it. But I don’t care if you want to do it differently - share with the group your approach!
Please be willing to be candid and share your actual examples. I’ve shown you mine in this curriculum. Implicit in this is that everyone agrees to keep conversations confidential. The more practical we can get the better.
I’ll also be available for an hour every other week to chat over video. You can subscribe to the Google Calendar for those office hours here.
Excited to go on this journey with you!
