Example Habits

Below is a list of habits you could start to incorporate (via BJ Fogg and James Clear):

Lifestyle

  • After I hear my alarm, I will turn it off immediately.
  • After I put my feet on the floor in the morning, I will say, “It’s going to be a great day!”
  • After I walk into the kitchen, I will drink a big glass of water.
  • After I turn on the shower, I will do three squats (and maybe more).
  • After my children leave for school, I will get out my to-do list for work.
  • After I eat my lunch, I will text someone in my Relationship Management system.
  • After I walk in the door after work, I will give my children a hug.
  • After dinner, I will plug my phone in the kitchen and not my bedroom.
  • After I get in bed, I will open my book and read for 5 minutes.
  • After I get my coffee on Sunday morning, I will sit down and do my weekly review.

Work

  • After I sit down at my desk, I will put my phone on airplane mode.
  • After I get back to my desk after my morning meeting, I will list my MVT for the day.
  • After I walk in the office, I will smile and greet everyone I see.
  • After I create the calendar invitation, I will add an agenda.
  • After a 1:1 or team meeting, I will ask for feedback from attendees on how to make it better.
  • After a meeting starts, I will outline the agenda and ask the team if there’s anything else we need to discuss.
  • After a meeting, I will add any personal details or notes to my Relationship Management System.
  • After a meeting, I will add any next actions or waiting for to my Task Management System.
  • At the end of every meeting, I will capturing action items and next steps.
  • After I define next steps, I will ask for a faster turnaround time to create urgency.
  • After a meeting ends, I will send notes, action items and next steps to members of RACI.

Health

  • After I put on my clothes, I will go outside and get 10 minutes of sunlight.
  • After I pull into the parking lot at work, I will park in the farthest parking space.
  • After I eat lunch, I will walk around the block at least once.
  • After I shampoo my hair, I will turn the shower on cold for 15 seconds.
  • After I use the restroom, I will do 2 pushups.
  • After every meeting, I will fill up my water glass.
