This program isn’t ultimately about tasks or todos or projects or routines.
It’s a program about joy.
Joy is not happiness. Happiness is a condition or mental state. It’s dependent on circumstances.
Joy is an orientation. A completely different way of seeing the world.
Joy doesn’t ignore the heaviness of life. It’s like a rudder that helps you steer through it without coming apart.
Joy resists negativity and skepticism and darkness. Joy looks for light. For colors.
At first maybe you see tiny specks of light. But with practice, the more you notice it, the more light you see. Until one day you see mostly light.
This program is ultimately about learning to see colors.
By casting bigger, more compelling visions for our lives that are consistent with our values, and putting the right support structures in place to actually move towards them, we create the conditions for joy.
In your Saturday morning routine reading over coffee.
In your evening walk after dinner with someone you care about.
In the work shutdown routine that allows you be present playing video games with your kids.
In three hour dinners with friends and loved ones.
In sustainable cycles of intense work and rest.
In the pursuit of big, hairy, audacious goals that will take years to achieve but provide years of fulfillment along the way.
In the personal operating systems that allow you to move through life productively and peacefully.
In the clear identification of values that matter to you, and the knowledge that you’re living them out more consistently and more fully.
In the deliberate construction of memorable scenes that you invite others into.
In living a more intentional life.
I have immense gratitude for you all. That you want to create lives full of stories and funeral-worthy relationships. I think about the impact you can make on this world in the coming years. I’m tremendously excited to see what you do.
My hope is that as you implement the ideas we’ve talked about over the last six modules, you begin to experience more joy.
May you increasingly see colors, everywhere you look.
